Creative Genius as Participation
Research Focus
We explore creativity as a participatory process. This research shows that creativity is not just a cognitive or performance-based achievement. Based on interviews with 140 world-class artists, we identifie six core themes: discipline, presence, surrender, participation, emergence, and transformation. We align these findings with the work of Walter Russell, who viewed creative genius as an act of engagement with a broader creative reality. This proposed participatory framework suggests that artists find meaning by relinquishing control and entering into a dynamic relationship with their work. We also argues that creativity is a fundamental way of connecting with the world that fosters deep personal and psychological growth.
