From Individualism to Belonging

We argue that modern global crises are rooted in a misalignment between systems built on individualism and the interdependent nature of reality. By reframing the autonomous self as a historical technology rather than a universal truth, we highlights how structural separation generates ecological and psychological distress. We build from the Anangu principle of Kanyini to present belonging as a foundational condition for existence rather than a mere social value. This Indigenous framework offers an integrated model for governance, health, and science by weaving together cosmology, psyche, kinship, and place. Ultimately, we suggest a civilisational phase shift is necessary to move from a culture of extraction toward one of relational coherence. Future societal viability depends on redesigning institutions to restore and sustain these essential conditions of connection.
