Patterns of Emergence and Developmental Organization

Research Focus

Our research proposes a process-based model that moves away from static personality traits toward patterns of emergence, which describe how individuals adapt to uncertainty and change. We identify twelve distinct patterns, such as sensing direction and disrupting structures, to explain how cognition and action are organized during creative or transformative processes. By utilizing dynamical systems theory, we emphasize that behavior is a fluid, non-linear engagement with evolving situational constraints. From our research we advocate for a temporally sensitive approach to psychology that captures the micro-dynamics of how people bring new possibilities into reality.
