A Relational Framework for Sustainability Science

Research Focus

We introduce our foundational “Deep Belonging” framework, which reimagines sustainability as a relational cosmology. Moving away from traditional mechanistic models that prioritize control and prediction, this approach integrates Indigenous ontologies, such as Tjukurpa and Kanyini, with modern relational physics and complexity science. We argues that current ecological crises are actually relational fractures that can only be resolved by repairing connections between humans, ecosystems, and the broader universe. This paradigm shifts the focus of environmental work from managing isolated variables to fostering systemic coherence and mutual responsibility. We propose that true sustainability is found in active participation and a profound sense of belonging within the living world.
