Ubuntu and Kanyini

Research Focus

We are exploring Indigenous philosophical foundations. We specifically analyze the concepts of Ubuntu from Southern Africa and Kanyini from the Anangu people of Australia to propose a relational theory of belonging. We argue that human identity is formed through interconnected networks of community, land, and spirit. By comparing these traditions, we suggest that wellbeing and responsibility emerge from maintaining these vital relationships rather than individualistic pursuits. We advocate for a relational ontology as a meaningful alternative to modern Western frameworks that often lead to social and ecological fragmentation.
