What Continues? Death, Destiny, and the Persistence of Participation

We explore the concept of persistent participation, suggesting that human life remains connected to larger systems even after biological death. By moving away from a focus on the individual, we examine how kinship, cultural memory, and shared stories allow an person’s influence to endure across generations. Our research highlights Indigenous Australian philosophies, such as Tjukurrpa and Kanyini, which view existence as an ongoing relational order involving the land and its ancestors. Additionally, it references near-death experiences as phenomenological evidence of a shift from personal identity toward a broader sense of universal connection. Our work reframes death not as a final termination, but as a transformation within a vast web of social, ecological, and spiritual continuities.
